Salvation is a free gift. God sent Jesus to bear our sins on the cross, not because of our great qualities or because we’ve been such good people, but because He loves us. While we were still sinners, Christ died for us, and for this reason, we get to rejoice in the free gift of salvation, but it is also our job to actually receive that gift.

From here, God gives us good works to do out of love for Him, not out of necessity for salvation. These works are not for ourselves, but for His glory.

The Garo Baptist Convention is one of the oldest organizations in North East India. The American Baptist Society founded it in the year 1867. Right now, it has 17 church associations and 1 center. It is one of the six conventions under the Council of Baptist Churches in North East India. it caters to the needs of the Garo churches in Garo Hills, parts of Khasi Hills, and lower and middle Assam. About 85% of the Garo people embraced Christianity; the rest follow the traditional Garo religion “Songsarek.” Hence, GBC strives for total evangelism among the Garos by 2011.

More than 150 years of its origins, the Garo Baptist Convention has responded to God’s call and came forward to venture into His heavenly realm. GBC’s ministries strengthen across the Garo Hills and beyond, transforming their communities and dealing with the needy. It continues to develop church programs, publications, educate, develop and strengthen Christians leaders to impact people’s lives.

The Garo Baptist Convention is a religious organization which is registered under Societies Act of 1860 (Registration No. MEG-ROS/2020/00285). It is the apex body of Garo Baptist churches in the whole of Meghalaya and the two districts of Kamrup and Goalpara in Assam. The headquarter is situated in Mission Compound, Tura City, West Garo Hills District, Meghalaya.
